Sir George Monoux College Wins National Recognition for inspiring Students with outstanding uses of Interactive Technology

British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) presents Sir George Monoux College with Next Generation Learning Certificate for Demonstrating Excellence in Interactive Learning Technology

Sir George Monoux College has been presented with a Next Generation Learning Award Certificate, in recognition of the College’s innovative uses Interactive Learning, at the official awards ceremony in Birmingham. These national awards, organised by the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency, (Becta), celebrate the impact and extensive benefits of technology in Further Education and reward technological excellence in the Further Education and Skills sector. Sir George Monoux College achieved second place in the whole of the UK in the Sixth Form College Category.

Sir George Monoux College was commended for its uses of technology throughout the College which includes interactive Whiteboards in all classrooms and innovative systems to allow teachers and students to evaluate learners’ achievements and celebrate success. BECTA commented that the judges were impressed by the College’s "great classroom practice" involving "engaged and contented students" as well as "the college's use of information and learning technology champions, whose work is overseen by an ILT advanced practitioner."

Kim Clifford, Principal of Sir George Monoux College said, "We are absolutely delighted that our use of interactive learning technology has been recognised nationally by BECTA. We are constantly evaluating creative ways to ensure a positive impact on our learners and our students meet regularly to discuss their learning experience and how best to use technology to its maximum."

Mike Ward, Head of ILT & Information Systems at Sir George Monoux College said, "Our e-learning strategy boosts learning with study videos and interactive learning projects uploaded to our community forum, which students can access remotely. We also use tracking systems to give all learners a clear view of their progress on their programme of study so they can keep on target for success. We are constantly implementing new systems and looking to improve our strategy based on student feedback. The ILT Support Team is currently developing forums and blogs to encourage student input where they can upload and share revision strategies and notes, discuss work and create their own revision games in an online classroom environment."
