Sir George Monoux College officially launches its London 2012 Committee
On Monday 19th April Sir George Monoux College officially launched its London 2012 Committee.
The London 2012 Olympic bid stated that hosting the Olympic Games and the Paralympics games would provide a lasting legacy for future generations in health, homes, jobs and sport, and improve the social, physical and economic landscape in one of the poorest and most deprived areas in London. The Games are a catalyst to create a sense of community pride that goes beyond culture, race, religion, class and origin. The Sir George Monoux College London 2012 Committee aims to engage and involve the College and its wider community in this world wide event and its legacy.

Kim Clifford, Principal of Sir George Monoux College said "Our 2012 committee, made up of staff, students and employers is very excited about the 2012 Games. We are committed to securing opportunities that will inspire and engage our young people with the core values of the Olympics. We believe that every student has something to gain through greater employment, training and skills opportunities. Students will also have access to world-class sporting venues and facilities as well as better transport links across London. We very much look forward to being part of celebrating London’s diverse communities and our students will be ambassadors to the world, promoting London as the greatest city for business investment, holidays and study”.
The College has recently been awarded the 2012 Inspire mark in recognition of its Olympic 2012 Legacy Champions initiative. The College’s 2012 Committee is currently working on an Awareness Campaign in a bid to stir excitement amongst its staff and students with displays around the College and planned themed days in the two year countdown to the games in 2012.
