Sir George Monoux College Celebrates its Annual Student Awards Ceremony

The Worshipful Mayor of Waltham Forest praises student success at Sir George Monoux College Student Awards Ceremony

On Tuesday 15th December 2009, Sir George Monoux College held its fourth Annual Student Awards Ceremony at the Walthamstow Assembly Hall to present outstanding students with Oscar trophies and awards in recognition of their exceptional success at the College. Proud parents joined members of the local community, sponsors and staff to applaud and celebrate students’ achievements. The Master of Ceremony, Matthew Bolton, Lead Organiser of London Citizens, led the proceedings and the awards were presented by the Worshipful Mayor of Waltham Forest Councillor Anna Mbachu, Leader of the Council Councillor Chris Robbins, Chair of the Corporation Peter Leighton and Kim Clifford, Principal of Sir George Monoux College.

The ceremony not only displayed the academic achievements of the students but also their diverse talents, with former student guest presenters Mariam Akinpeju and Samuel Etienne, live music from the music department and a special solo performance from student Sherelle Tomlinson.

The award categories included Outstanding A Level and Vocational Performance Awards, Student Of The Year Awards for every subject across the College, Academy of Finance Awards, Nuffield Bursary Awards and Curriculum Awards. There were also overall College Awards including the Governors’ Award, the Class of ’58 Achievement Award, Reed Specialist Leadership Award, the Accelerate Personal Endeavour Award, the Ministry of Defence Employers’ Award, London Citizens’ Community Cohesion Award, Drapers’ Service to the Community Award, Sports Player of the Year Award and Contribution to Sir George Monoux College Award. The most prestigious prize, the Governors’ Award 2009, was presented to Zara Akinpeju.

Master of Ceremony, Matthew Bolton of London Citizens said, “The Awards Ceremony demonstrated the star quality and collective effort of a College that contributes massively to the lives of students and to the whole community. Across the 150 member communities of London Citizens, Sir George Monoux stands out as a place with so much to celebrate and they do so in great style.”

Kim Clifford, Principal of Sir George Monoux College said, “What a fantastic way to end the term! It’s just wonderful to see so many students celebrating their achievements together. It is events like this, where students, parents and teachers come together as a community, that make Sir George Monoux College so unique.”
