Entry Requirements

A & AS Level

About the course

AS/A level subjects are usually chosen in the first year. Some of these subjects will be AS only and you will normally take 3 A Levels in your second year.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs grades A*- C are required. These should be in subjects that are relevant to the AS/A levels you wish to study. This normally excludes Food Technology, Resistant Materials, PE, Textiles. Home Languages are also excluded unless they are taken at a higher level. You must have at least a grade C in English although some subjects accept English Lit as an alternative.
For some A levels there are specific entry requirements - these are indicated next to the subjects below. Progression onto the second year of your course is not guaranteed and is dependent on successful achievement in the first year of your course, which often includes passing all of your AS subjects.

BTEC National Certificate/Diploma

About the course

These 2 year courses are equal to A Level study. A BTEC National Diploma is equal to 3 A levels and a BTEC Certificate is equal to 2 A levels. One vocational subject should be chosen. You can combine your course with an A Level, AS level or GCSE providing you
meet the entry requirements.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE grades A* - C are normally required, including English. Alternatively, a MERIT grade in BTEC First Diploma or GNVQ Intermediate in a relevant vocational area would also be suitable, normally supported by a GCSE grade C in English. You may also be required to take a diagnostic test to ensure you are suitable for the course.

BTEC Single Award

About the course

A 6 unit qualification which is equal to 1 A Level and is taken over 2 years.

BTEC First Diploma

About the course

These are 1 year courses equal to 4 GCSEs and students should choose one vocational
area.

Entry requirements

4 GCSE grades D - E are normally required including English. Alternatively, a MERIT grade at BTEC Introductory level or GNVQ Foundation, in a relevant vocational area, would also be appropriate.

GCSE

About the course

A limited range of GCSE courses are available at the college, which students can take alongside their other A level or BTEC courses. All GCSE courses are taken over one academic year. To resit English and Maths GCSE you must have GCSE grade D in the subject you wish to resit.

Entry requirements

You must have GCSE grade D in the subject you wish to resit.

 

A limited number of GCSEs which you probably will not have studied before in school are also available. These are likely to include Biology, Psychology, Statistics, Sociology.

 

AQA Baccalaureate

About the course

A qualification that recognises all round achievement of students and includes 3 A Levels, 1 AS Level an Extended Project and some enrichment studies.

Entry requirements

A range of B grades at GCSE.
