Introduction to course

Develop your practical and work related skills in Science in this one year course.

Course Details

You will study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics at GCSE Level and also aspects of Science in the workplace. Your assignments will include practical and research work. You will study eight units and the three core units on the course are:

  • Chemistry and Our Earth
  • Energy and Our Universe
  • Biology and Our Environment

The five optional units that you will study are:

  • Health Applications of Life Sciences
  • The Living Body
  • Growing Plants for Food
  • Investigating a Crime Scene
  • Science in Medicine

We also plan visits and trips as appropriate to the units.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSE grades D - E are normally required including English. Alternatively, a MERIT grade at BTEC Introductory level or GNVQ Foundation, in a relevant vocational area, would also be appropriate. If you have completed any BTEC Applied Science units at school/college you  MUST bring in your copy of the SRF and the portfolio of the Applied Science work.
