Introduction to course
This exciting course applies science to the real world and allows you to develop practical and work related skills. You will study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics at GCSE Level and also aspects of science in the workplace. We also arrange interesting visits and trips. You will need 4 GCSE grades D - E including English, or a Merit grade at BTEC Level 1. After the course you can progress to Level 3 or seek a junior role in a science-related environment.
You will study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics at GCSE Level and also aspects of Science in the workplace. Your assignments will include practical and research work. You will study eight units and the three core units on the course are:
- Chemistry and Our Earth
- Energy and Our Universe
- Biology and Our Environment
The five optional units that you will study are:
- Health Applications of Life Sciences
- The Living Body
- Growing Plants for Food
- Investigating a Crime Scene
- Science in Medicine
We also plan visits and trips as appropriate to the units.
4 GCSE grades D - E are normally required including English. Alternatively, a MERIT grade at BTEC Introductory level or GNVQ Foundation, in a relevant vocational area, would also be appropriate. If you have completed any BTEC Applied Science units at school/college you MUST bring in your copy of the SRF and the portfolio of the Applied Science work.
Where the course lead
You will be able to enter employment after this course or you can progress to further study on a related Level 3 BTEC Diploma course.
The course is divided into assignments which will be internally assessed by your teachers.
