Introduction to course
Media students take pride in the department's advanced features, which include fully digital video recording and editing facilities, latest industry standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, PageMaker, Flash and good digital photography facilities. The department runs regular workshops offering excellent student support and also provides students with the opportunity to go on education trips as part of their course.
Film is an exciting, thought provoking, powerful and artistic form of mass communication. If you are interested in understanding how film works and would like to develop your knowledge and understanding of this fascinating medium, film studies is the course for you. The subject will help to develop your written and analytical skills and will cover the following; How film-makers use the language of cinema to create meaning through sound, editing, camera and lighting, How films are developed, made and marketed, Detailed studies of the British and Hollywood film industry and British and Hollywood films, The history of film and Discussion and analysis of world cinema.
5 GCSE grades A*-C including a C grade in English Language and English Literature.
