- Qualification: BTec L3 C
- Awarded By: EDEX REG
Introduction to course
2 years assessed by coursework
You can study IT at Level 3 full time or combine with other A Level subjects, to suit your longer term goals. Depending on how many units you study, you can achieve a Level 3 Certificate (equivalent to an AS), a Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to an A Level) or an Extended Diploma (equivalent to three full A Levels). The Extended Diploma option is particularly suitable if you want to pursue a career in IT or related sectors, with a Business pathway if you want to focus on how computers are used in business.
For all the Level 3 units, you’ll be working on a range of topics with interesting projects and assignments which are highly relevant to the real world of business. The skills you’ll learn will be transferable and welcomed by employers in many different workplace settings.
This course focuses on aspects of the use of ICT within employment and will give you a thorough grounding in a range of generic IT skills. Whilst it’s not essential to have any previous ICT qualifications, those of you who have studied ICT at GCSE or DIDA level will be familiar with the basic concepts.
During the course you will learn about the principles of effective communication, using IT to communicate effectively, the software and hardware components of computer systems and how to set up and maintain such systems. You will also be encouraged to think about how businesses use ICT and the differing ICT requirements of organisations.
You will need 5 GCSEs with Cs or above in English Language and Mathematics to be considered for a place on this course.
This course is not suitable with
AS ICT or AS Computing
You will be assessed through a number of coursework assignments.
You may progress into the computing industry or continue into higher education. Within higher education our students typically opt to apply for one of the many fields of computer science.
In terms of guided learning hours and UCAS points this qualification is the equivalent of one AS Level and can be very usefully incorporated into an A Level programme along with three other AS Levels.
